Barbados won another Gold medal at the ongoing CAC Games in El Salvador last night, when Shane Brathwaite placed first in the Men’s 110 metre hurdles.

Brathwaite was clocked at 13.64 seconds, the same time as Rasheem Brown of Cayman Islands, but Brathwaite was given the Gold via the photo-finish.

Also yesterday, Matthew Wright won a Bronze medal in Men’s triathlon.

Ranked 106 in the world, Wright completed the swim, bike and run in a time of one hour 46 minutes 36 seconds.

The winner of the event was Aram Peñaflor of Mexico in one hour 44 minute 51 seconds, with another Mexican athlete, Crisanto Grajales, finishing in second in a time of one hour 45 minutes 51 seconds.

It has been an outstanding year for 31-year-old Wright, who has had a string of top 10 finishes in four world class competitions this year.

Meanwhile, Barbados won another medal when the Women’s hockey team defeated Dominican Republic 4-2 on penalty flicks after the Bronze medal playoff ended 2-all in regulation time.

The Bajan ladies were trailing 2-nil until they made use of two penalty corners in the 60th minute to level the score at 2-all via D’Jamila Edwards and Ayanna Wilson.

Then there were two crucial saves from goal-keeper Anaya Alleyne-Germain in the penalty shoot-out that gave Barbados the 4-2 win.

Team Barbados now has seven medals, following the Gold by Chelsea Tuach in surfing, Silver by Michelle Elliot in shooting, and Bronze medals by Jabali Breedy in boxing and Amber Joseph in cycling.

In other results last night, in the Women’s 800 metre final, Sonia Gaskin finished just outside the medals, placing fourth in 2 minutes 05.50 seconds, and Matthew Clarke was also fourth in the Men’s 200 metre final, in 20.49 seconds.
