New Board, Chairman Elect for BHTA

The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) has appointed a new Board of Directors including Chairman Elect, Javon Griffith.

In a release, the BHTA says Griffith will take over the role of Chairman when present Chairman Renée Coppin’s two-year term comes to an end in June 2024.

Other Board members include Stephen Austin, Patricia Affonso-Dass, Jo-Ann Roett, Karen Capaldi, Leroy Browne, Mark Kent, Tania Wallace, Kavita Sandiford, Raymond Gill, Dr. Jens Thraenhart, Davina Layne and BHTA Chief Executive Officer Ryan Forde.

Griffith has over 18 years of experience in Tourism and Hospitality Management in Barbados, and has been an active member of the BHTA since 2013, serving as Second Vice-Chairman on the Board since 2020.

He’s been the General Manager at the Atlantis Historic Inn from 2014, and also oversees the Sales and Marketing Operations for both Atlantis and sister property Little Good Harbour.

Griffith holds a Master’s Degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University (Bedfordshire, UK), a Bachelor’s Degree with honours from the University of the West Indies in Hospitality & Tourism Management and Associate Degrees in Tourism and Travel and French and Italian for Business and Tourism from the Barbados Community College.

Commenting on his appointment, he says, “I am looking forward to leading the BHTA’s Board of Directors in 2024 as one of the youngest Chairpersons in the Association’s esteemed 71 year history.”
