Barbados’ hopes of qualifying for the Inaugural CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup next year came to an end as the Lady Tridents went down 4-2 to Bermuda.
Playing at the Dame Flora Duffy South Field Stadium in Hamilton, Barbados were trailing three-nil inside twelve minutes, as the hosts were inspired by goals from Jaden Masters, Victoria Davis and Aaliyah Nolan.
However, midfielder Ashanee Thompson gave Barbados a lifeline just before half-time, netting a double with strikes in the 34th and 45th minutes.
Despite Bermuda being reduced to ten players, Barbados were unable to capitalise on the numerical advantage, and Nolan put the game to bed 16 minutes from time with her second goal of the match.
The result means Barbados will finish third in Group C of League B, as they can only gain a maximum of seven points if victorious in their final group game against St. Vincent and The Grenadines next month.
Meantime, group leaders Bermuda will face the Dominican Republic in an important top-of-the-table clash to advance to the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup.
It is a must-win encounter for Dominican Republic while a draw would see Bermuda progress.
