As Barbados moves ahead with policy to protect the elderly, an effort is being made to reverse a trend where many seniors live out their years in some form of institution.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey says a different approach will be promoted under the new policy.
Minister Humphrey was at the time addressing the opening of the Barbados National Senior Games, which was launched yesterday and runs to June 25.
There he revealed there is also regional and international interest in the games this year.
He explains that the Senior Games is also a part of the policy framework to promote active ageing.
