Sada Williams wins with new Games record

August 7th, 2022

Sada Williams set a new Games record to win the gold in the Women’s 400 metres at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Williams won the first gold medal for the island in the 2022 Games in a time of 49.90 and is the first woman to go under 50 seconds in the 400 metres at the Commonwealth championship.

England was second and third with Victoria Ohuruogu in 50.72 and Jodie Williams in 51.26.

Jonathan Jones was third in the Men’s 400 metres earlier today.

The 400 metres distance holds a special place for Barbados at the Commonwealth championships, as Andrea Blackett won gold with a Games record in the 400 metres hurdles at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
