Barbadian jockey Reshawn Latchman ticked off two career milestones with a double win on Friday’s eight-race card at the Charles Town racetrack in West Virginia, United States.
Latchman not only landed his 50th win for the third successive season, but he also passed the 200-win mark in his eighth year on the North American circuit.
He, however, is seventh in the jockeys’ table and a long way off leading rider, Arnaldo Bocachica on 182 wins.
Latchman brought up his double-century when the 8-1 chance Corky Cowgirl won by half-length in the West Virginia, U.S. $12,100 third race over 1,300 metres on the dirt.
He dropped Corky Cowgirl well off the pace and saved early ground through the first half of the race before he produced the six-year-old, bay mare approaching the five-sixteenths pole and she dug in from the head of the lane after circling rivals to finish in one minute, 24.07 seconds.
Latchman then scored his half-century for the season on the odds-on favourite Speightsford, which also won by half-length in the U.S. $35,200 fourth race over 1,300 metres on the dirt.
Speightsford, a seven-year-old, chestnut horse, whose sire Speightstown was bred by Barbados-based, Canadian business executive Eugene Melnyk, took over the race in the first turn and never relented, holding on to clock 1 min, 19.32 secs.
