Wotton Football Club pulled off the biggest upset so far of the 2023 BFA Premier League season by handing leaders Weymouth Wales their first defeat.
Playing at the Wildey Turf Sunday night in a tight contest, an own goal from Akeem Hill in the 80th minute secured the 1-nil win for Wotton and three vital points.
Wotton is now fifth with 21 points while Wales remains on top of the table with 34 points.
In the night’s other two matches, Empire blanked St. Andrew Lions 2-1 thanks to a double strike from Daniel Calvi in the 13th and 70th minutes.
Jamol Williams scored for the Lions in the 43rd.
Empire is now on 28 points and retakes the second spot from Ellerton Football Club.
