With celebrations for African Awareness Month beginning today in Barbados, one Pan Africanist says the Ministry of Education and the Commission for Pan African Affairs should be given the credit for starting it in the schools.
Director of the Centre for Hybrid Studies Dr. Deryck Murray says there is a lot of criticism about how the month is marked, but one has to start somewhere.
Dr. Murray told Morning Report that the wearing of the clothing is also an issue which people debate.
However, he pointed out that a foundation is set educationally.
Dr. Murray says the lessons are not just based on history, but all the other fundamental areas which our African ancestors built and contributed to.
