Driver found dead after ‘minor collision’

Police are investigating the death of a male driver yesterday.

Police are investigating the death of a 59-year-old male driver, whose lifeless body was discovered behind the steering wheel of his vehicle after a minor collision with an embankment to the nearside of his vehicle.

The man was identified by family members as Erwin Brathwaite of Sion Hill, St James.

The incident was reported about 9:15 pm yesterday, Sunday 5 December 2021, along Greenwich Road, St. James.

The driver was said to be travelling towards Holetown along that same road when the vehicle became involved in a collision. The vehicle received slight damage to its left side mirror, left headlamp, left front bumper and left front fender.

Ambulance personnel were initially summmoned to the scene but on their arrival found no sign of life. A medical doctor later visited the scene and pronounced the man .

Investigations are ongoing in this matter and pPlice have not classified this as a road traffic fatality as they are awaiting the findings of a post mortem.
