PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – A magistrate court has fined 13 Venezuelan nationals TT$5,000 (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) each, after they were found to have entered Trinidad and Tobago illegally earlier this week.
The 13, including five women, pleaded guilty when they appeared virtually before Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh.
They were among 15 Venezuelans arrested by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Immigration Investigations Unit on Monday and Tuesday.
The five females were all fined TT$5,000 each or in default face nine months’ simple imprisonment, while eight of the 10 men were fined TT$5,000 each or in default nine months’ hard labour.
They have 30 days in which to pay the fines.
Two of the males were remanded into custody pending further investigations.
