Barbadians urged to become foster parents

There’s a push for more Barbadians to become foster parents.

Acting Director of the Child Care Board Colin St. Hill says individuals or families with an interest can contact the Government department.

He made the comment amid public debate about a decision this week to intervene in a situation involving a homeless woman and her children.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Jehu Wiltshire says they are aware of concerns about the stipend paid for foster care and will be taking a paper to Cabinet for an increase.

Meanwhile, Mr. St. Hill says the island does not have a problem with street children largely because of the efforts of the department.
