Barbados has been identified by the International Monetary Fund as among countries in the Caribbean with the most successful IMF programmes.
The other identified by Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva during a briefing on the global policy agenda was Jamaica.
Ms. Georgieva, in response to a question posed, says the IMF is to review the performance of its Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST).
That programme was introduced to assist low-income and vulnerable middle-income countries in building resilience to external shocks.
Barbados was among the first group of countries to reach a staff-level agreement to access the RST.
She says removal of the requirement for a current IMF programme at this time can’t be justified.
