There is hope for a bountiful and safe sugar harvest as the 2023 season got underway.
This is as mechanical harvesters were seen in this field at Carrington Estates on Monday morning.
They will play a vital role in this year’s harvest because most of the cane will be reaped this way.
The manager at Carrington Estates, Clyde Craig, is expecting a better yield this year from his 700-acre estate.
Overall the harvest is expected to yield 107,000 tons of cane – a 13 per cent increase over the previous year.
This is mainly attributed to the increase in acreage planted and the hot water treatments to get rid of the ratoon stunting disease.
