A call has been made for the creation of a new Government department to provide housing for people on the brink of homelessness.
It’s come from President of the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness Kemar Saffrey, who says it’s part of a housing solution policy he’s envisaged.
He suggests that policy could involve the construction of small container houses for people or an arrangement where landlords rent their properties to the organisation for use by its clients.
Mr. Saffrey was speaking during a press conference on Wednesday to announcement the commencement of the 24 hour shelter for the homeless.
He also disclosed that consideration is being given to creating a separate shelter for women and children.
