Call for more audible pedestrian traffic signals

The President of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maria Holder-Small, wants to see the roll-out of audible pedestrian crossings all around Barbados.

Currently, there are two of the audible pedestrian traffic signals – one at the junction of Chelston Park, Pine Road and Culloden Road, and the other near the National Disabilities Unit, in Collymore Rock, St. Michael.

They are intended to help blind and visually impaired people cross the roads more confidently and safely.

Ms. Holder-Small, who has been living with a disability for 17 years and uses a motorised wheelchair to get around, is a new executive committee member of the Barbados Road Safety Association.

She hopes to drive home the point that people with disabilities use the roads too.
