CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank warns of smishing scam

March 23rd, 2022

CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank is warning its customers that there is currently a fraudulent SMS text message being sent to clients requesting them to click on a link as their account has been suspended.

In a social media post, the Bank reminded the public it does not send SMS text messages requesting clients to update their account.

It says this is a smishing scam – an effort to steal customers’ data or money through a text message that attempts to trick them into following a link and revealing personal details or login information – and it is taking the necessary steps to shut down the fraudulent site.

CIBC FirstCaribbean has advised customers if they receive a suspicious SMS text message to report it immediately to its Fraud Mailbox at fraud@cibcfcib.com.
