Beach recovery is a major concern for the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) as shorelines are affected by the invasive sargassum seaweed.

Director of the CZMU Dr Leo Brewster, says the sargassum is having a devastating impact on the coasts.

According to Dr. Brewster, the presence of the invasive sargassum seaweed has increased significantly over the last five to seven years in Barbados waters and along its shores.

He says it arrives in January and is an ever-present threat.

Dr. Brewster wants the country to find more valuable uses for the sargassum.
