Conference on constitutionality of Parliament continues next week

Another date has been set to deal with the constitutional motion brought by former Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, Q.C., challenging the constitutionality of Parliament.

During today’s Court Management Conference on the appointment of two Opposition Senators, Government’s legal team and counsel for the former Attorney General were told they must submit all issues of law and issues of fact to the Court, by Monday 28th of February, 2022. That stipulation was outlined by Madame Justice Cicely Chase.

Today’s proceedings stemmed from a Notice of Application filed by Queen’s Counsel, Garth Patterson, highlighting matters arising from the case and an affidavit from Director of Finance Ian Carrington, stating the time sensitive nature of the matter and its effect on the execution of Government business.
