Almost half of the Caribbean’s over 44 million residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
This from Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director, Dr. Carissa Etienne who says over 21 million have taken the jab.
However, while addressing PAHO’s weekly COVID-19 digital briefing on Wednesday, Dr. Etienne highlighted the need for countries to do more to reach unvaccinated people.
She says interventions should be tailored to the needs of those who remain vulnerable in each country, including the elderly and people with underlying health conditions.
In addition, the PAHO director says measures must be put in place to make it easier for people to get a vaccine closer to home.
She encouraged those who have been vaccinated to reach out and assist others who want to be immunized but have concerns, by listening to them and helping them locate a vaccination site.
