The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging the provision of diabetes services on island.
The Barbados Diabetes Foundation says it has made some of the challenges even more evident.
Chief Executive Officer, Cally Boyea provided some insight during the 5th Annual Oscar Jordan Medical Symposium.
The topic, ‘Diabetic Eye Disease Screening: Saving Eyes, Saving Lives’.
During the event, Noreen Merrit, the ex-President of the Diabetes Association of Barbados was recognised and honoured for her work.
Meanwhile Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Queen’s University Belfast in Ireland, Tunde Peto noted diabetes has hit the poorest, the hardest around the world this year.
