There was no debate on the National Insurance and Social Security Amendment Bill after it was introduced in the Senate this morning.
That’s because Leader of Government Business in the Upper House, Senator Lisa Cummins asked for an adjournment, shortly after the first reading of the Bill.
Last Friday, the Bill was debated in the Lower House.
It seeks to gradually raise the retirement age to 68, amend the law relating to the system of National Insurance and Social Security by establishing a body corporate to administer the system and perform the functions relating to National Insurance and social security, among other things.
Senator Cummins explained why she called for the adjournment.
