Barbados and other Caribbean countries are being told about the importance of including communities in disaster risk reduction.
Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency Elizabeth Riley, says in order to address disaster inequalities small island states, must look to develop robust strategies to include its people in the decision-making processes.
Ms. Riley’s comments come as the world celebrates International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction under the theme, Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future.
Ms. Riley says disaster risk reduction is not only about building robust infrastructure.
