A Law student at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill is this year’s Rhodes Scholar.
20 year old Guyanese national, Rawletta Barrow was announced the winner by Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, following a full day of virtual interviews.
Applicants from seven caribbean countries, including Barbados were in the running for the coveted scholarship.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the world’s preeminent and oldest graduate fellowship, based at the University of Oxford since 1903. The scholarships for the Caribbean began in 1953.
Ms. Barrow is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws programme at UWI, and come next October, she will be heading to the University of Oxford to pursue the Bachelor in Civil Law.
She says she’s honoured and blessed to have been awarded the prestigious scholarship.
Meanwhile, Dame Sandra says the interview process shows the Caribbean is crammed with brilliant and passionate young people who are committed to regional development.
