The indigenous community here in Barbados has been reacting to Monday’s deadly dormitory fire in Guyana.
Eighteen of the deceased were from the country’s indigenous population.
Barbados-born hereditary Clan Chief of the Eagle Clan of the Lokono Arawaks, Damon Corrie, is extending condolences to the grieving families.
He tells CBC News the incident hits hard as he just returned from a clothes distribution drive in Guyana’s interior in a community similar to Mahdia.
