Major change for Independence celebrations

A major change to this year’s Independence celebrations.

It has been confirmed the parade and march past will be headed to the community of Black Rock.

The parade will take place at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex while the march past will proceed along Black Rock Main Road to Carlton Supermarket, where the official salute will be taken.

Home Affairs Minister Wilfred Abrahams says the venue has been selected because of the unavailability of other sites including Kensington Oval, the Garrison Savannah, the Police Sports Club, Weymouth and the Bridgetown Port.

The country’s newest monument will also be unveiled in the City on Tuesday.

In encouraging Barbadians to come out, Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, Commodore Errington Shurland says seating will be provided for 2700 individuals.
