No drop in fish prices

Do not expect the price of fish to drop any time soon, especially if fuel prices continue to rise.

That was the message from the President of the Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisation, Vernel Nicholls, as she appeared on The People’s Business last evening.

She noted that fuel is a major expense for those in the industry.

Meanwhile, Chief Fisheries Officer, Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, says she felt it was important for stakeholders to level with the public so everyone would understand the factors driving costs.

however, she adds efforts will be intensified to raise the profile of the industry and increase foreign exchange earnings from fish exports.
