Agriculture Minister, Indar Weir believes praedial larceny in Barbados is now a well organised and very profitable business.

Furthermore, he says, the thieves who are responsible for stealing produce are carrying weapons and are prepared to use them to protect their operations.

The Minister described the issue as ‘organised crime’ as he led off Debate on the Protection of Agricultural Products Bill, 2022 yesterday.

He says however legislation on its own will not get the problem solved, but it all has to be supported by a massive public education programme.
