The Barbados Revenue Authority is stepping up its efforts to go after individuals who have defaulted on their taxes.

Notices posted in the press indicated the authority had placed 27 properties for sale ahead of Wednesday’s auction at Skymall.

And mindful of that, there was only standing room, as Barbadians packed the venue to bid for a piece or several pieces of the rock.

However, BRA’s Acting Director of Audit and Compliance Angela Durham, says there were fewer properties up for grabs, as many delinquent owners reached out to the authority to make payments prior to Wednesday’s auction.

However, she says they are still optimistic of recouping around three million dollars in arrears through the two-day auction.

And Ms. Durham is encouraging others whose accounts are in the red to settle them soon.
