Regional exclusion in global financial sector

A local academic wants Barbados and other countries in the region to have a seat on the boards of international regulatory bodies, responsible for creating black and grey lists.

Professor Don Marshall made the point during a roundtable discussion hosted by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies or SALISES.

He believes the routine habit of excluding countries like Barbados from the governance of the global financial sector, must come to an end.

Managing Director of Smith Compliance Consulting Glenna Smith, says Barbados still lacks a central beneficial ownership registry.

The registry would contain information on the people who ultimately own or control a legal entity or arrangement.
