Today, the anniversary of the Bussa Rebellion, signals the start of the 2023 Season of Emancipation.
The season, which will be observed under the theme, “Reimagining the Past; Celebrating the Future,” will be commemorating the sacrifices and struggles of our foreparents.
Programme Advisor in the Office of Reparations and Economic Enfranchisement, Rodney Grant, sees it as important for the country to reflect on the contributions of our ancestors, noting their resilience and endurance have made us who we are as Barbadians.
Senior Cultural Policy and Research Officer in the Division of Culture, Dr. Sheron Johnson, says it is critical Barbadians understand what emancipation means and the diversity of who we are.
