There is concern that the consumption of poor-quality foods is increasing the non-communicable disease burden in barbados and the region.

It is coming from the Director, of Surveillance Disease Prevention and Control Division, of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Dr. Lisa Indar.

Dr. Indar was a panellist on a webinar on what’s happening with food labels in caricom.

She says CARPHA fully supports a front-of-packaging labelling drive, noting it’s the right time to step up awareness of the effects of ultra-processed products.

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative to the Eastern Caribbean area, Pieter Bult, says every child has the right to adequate nutrition.
