Vauxhall Primary School is about to bear a new name in honor of Shirley Chisholm, the American politician who in 1968, became the first black woman to be elected to the US Congress.
Chisholm was of Barbadian and Guyanese descent.
Vauxhall Primary, located at Vauxhall, Christ Church was officially opened on July 8, 1976.
It will be renamed the Shirley Chisholm Primary School during a ceremony on Tuesday, April 4.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, along with the Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Kay McConney and Parliamentary Representative, Adrian Forde will be in attendance.
Relatives of Chisholm will also attend.
