The Barbados Meteorological Services is closely monitoring the progress of a tropical wave located near 40W or about 2000km (1250 miles) east of Barbados at 7:00 am today, Thursday 12th of August, 2021.
The structure of the system on satellite imagery remains disorganized at this time. However, gradual development of this system is possible as it moves generally west northwest at about 20 mph across the central Atlantic.
Current forecast tracks indicate that this system should pass north of Barbados late Saturday into early Sunday morning.
This system is not a depression or tropical storm and there are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados.
The Met Office is urging the public to continue to monitor updates from the BMS on this system over the next 24 to 36 hours.
The next update will be at 5 pm or sooner if conditions warrant.
