Government and the Barbados Football Association (BFA) have formed a partnership through the National Peace Programme (NPP), to use football as a tool to combat violence on the island.
The BFA and NPP officially launched the programme at the Wildey Turf yesterday, as a pilot to create several small hubs in all 11 parishes across the island.
The BFA’s Technical Director and former national player Emmerson Boyce says it’s all part of plans to develop the sport and involve more youth.
Project Manager Armani Best believes the programme will provide social change for at-risk youth.
The initiative is geared towards potential players under the age of sixteen with dreams and aspirations of pursuing football as a career.
As part of the launch, members of the Barbados Under-14 girls National Football Team enjoyed a five-side exhibition match to showcase how the hubs will work.
