2023 Independence Day Honours List released

President of the Senate his Honour Reginald Farley, President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled Kerryann Ifill and Director of Sagicor Financial Company Ltd Dodridge Miller have received the highest honours in the 2023 Independence Day Honours List.

The three have received the Order of the Freedom of Barbados.

Mr. Farley receives his award for his distinguished career as a policymaker, diplomat, leader of industry and accountant, his sterling contribution to national and business development as well as the cohesion of the social partnership and his exceptional leadership of the Honourable the Senate.

Ms. Ifill is honoured for her distinguished service in the Honourable the Senate and outstanding contribution to the enfranchisement of persons living with disabilities through education, employment and exposure.

Mr. Miller has been recognised for his exceptional career in local and regional banking, Caribbean money management and entrepreneurship and his sterling contribution as a transformational and international financial leader.

Meanwhile, Honorary awards of the Order of Freedom of Barbados for distinguished individuals who are not a citizen of Barbados go to the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and President of Guyana Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

Receiving the Order of the Republic are Dr. Allyson Leacock, Esther Phillips and Dr. Grantley Morris.

Angela Simpson received the Gold Award of Achievement for her philanthropic work and contribution to the development of the sport of horse racing, while Sada Williams received a Gold Trident of Excellence for her outstanding achievements as a world class athlete in sport.

Other awards presented include the Silver Trident of Excellence, the Barbados Service Star and the Barbados Service Medal.

Meanwhile, the Barbados Bravery Medal was presented to two Barbadians – Roger Orlando Rock for placing himself at risk while preventing extreme loss of property and loss of life, and Marlon Tempro for placing himself at risk while preventing loss of property and also loss of his life while under attack by persons with firearms during a robbery.

The list was officially released at midnight, as Barbados marks its 57th anniversary of Independence and 2nd year as a Republic
