Work collectively to mitigate challenges

A call for Barbadians this International Men’s Day to work collectively to help mitigate the challenges affecting boys and men.

It comes as Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey expressed deep concern about the prevalence of gun related crimes and the senseless deaths due to gun violence.

He notes the country is aware of the consequences this is having on families and societies.

Of equal concern is the rising number of suicides, particularly among the young male population.

In his message to mark the day, Minister Humphrey says all is not lost despite the negative portrayal of young males.

He adds his Ministry is cognizant of the need to engage Barbadian boys and men and has taken initiatives to provided programmes and spaces to promote their well-being.

International Men’s Day is being observed under the theme, “Helping Men and Boys”.
